Jewelry inspired by the 2016 Met Gala

Jewelry inspired by the 2016 Met Gala

10/05/2016
Jewelry inspired by the 2016 Met Gala

The annual Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute benefit, otherwise known as The Met Gala, took place this month, and boy were the celebrities looking good. The Met Gala is one of the prestigious events of the year and only the highest ranked on the social ladder are invited. During the past few years, it has become one of the biggest red carpet events of the year, with guests paying $30,000 for a seat at the fundrais

Like every year, this year also had a theme that could be seen in every design and piece of jewelry worn - " Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology," meaning designs inspired by technology and the future, or at least what the designers think the future is going to look like. The spectacular gowns were defiantly the main event at this show, but the jewelry was not far behind with original futuristic bling all over the red carpet

The main jewelry trends that were present on the 2016 Met Gala red carpet were; diamonds, iconic New York jewelers and vintage or vintage-themed jewels. Once again the rich and famous have inspired us, and this time, it is the Met Gala that is our inspiration for your next jewelry line. The theme, together with the stunning designer items we witnessed on the red carpet have given us so many ideas for futuristic, modern and dramatic jewelry designs.

Here are some of the best looks and styles we spotted on the red carpet this year that we would like to show you how you can get inspired from and create stunning jewelry pieces that are on trend.

Skin tight metallic dresses from the future - In gold, bronze and a lot of silver

Kim Kardashian has always been a fashion inspiration figure to admire, and this year is no exception. With her skin-tight silver futuristic figure-hugging dress by Belamin, she was a sight for sore eyes, but who are we kidding? She always is! She wore her hair up in a sleek do, a big and shiny earpiece that sat on her ear from bottom to top! We also can't ignore her hubby Kanye West with his fake blue eye contacts - that's futuristic alright!

There are so many metallic futuristic inspired jewelry pieces you can create! Here are a few guidelines you might want to take into consideration:

1. Create a large jewelry piece made of many small and shiny metal pieces to create a sparkling illusion, every time it moves. To create a scale Armor effect, for example, take a few chains and small metal elements and connect them into three or four rows close together to create a shiny and flexible surface.

2. Attach several different kinds of metal chains together to create one big jewelry piece that will shine forever. You can use chains in one metal color plating or several together such as Antique Silver, Silver, Nickle, Shiny Black, Antique Brass.

3. If you want that extra metallic shine or a glimpse of a different metal color, you can use the Swarovski metallic effect crystals such as Aurore Boreale (AB) crystal - white mirror effect, Comet argent - silver mirror color, Metallic sunshine - metallic yellow color, Crystal Dorado - metallic bronze color. The SW patina effect crystals are also great: Gold Patina, Black Patina, Silver patina and Rose patina.

4. The best metal plating color that will create a strong and shiny silver metallic effect is the “shiny Nickel”! Another metal plating color that you can use is the "shiny bright gold" for its cool yellow color that will create a modern, cool and sophisticated look.

Busy looks combined with spikes, metallic beads, crystals, chains, etc.

Poppy Delevingne's total look this year was eye-popping! This style combines various materials that wouldn't usually go together, but on these dresses it just works fabulously! It will give any dress or even a much simpler outfit a majestic and sophisticated look.

These are the main ideas that will help you create jewelry, inspired by this look:

1. The bigger and busier the better" - this is this year's fashion motto, with all things to do with big and busy. It is the hottest trend this year as you can see from all of the designs presented at the Met Gala. The jewelry pieces are so big; they almost look like an Item of clothing. When wearing this big jewelry, wear a simple dress or shirt underneath, and as a setting for the stunning jewel.

2. The main point is to combine various materials together such as sparkling crystals, metal charms, plastic and metal beads, chains, pearls and more - all in metallic colors to give your jewelry a futuristic feel and look. By combining these materials, you will be able to create stunning and unforgettable jewelry pieces.

3. There are endless ways to create jewelry inspired by this look, and many materials to use, so choose the ones that you like the most and that will allow you to create unique pieces that your customers will be able to recognize you by in a flash!

The total black look, or black with metallic colors

Katy Parry stunned us with her overwhelming dark gown by none less than Miuccia Prada! The gown had a heavy look and was embodied with gold and green futuristic embellishments. Her dress was defiantly a piece of art. But since this is Katy Perry, after all, she just had to finish off this stunning look with a small, white, Tamagotchi - combining the old together with the new, in style.

This look can also be used as inspiration for your jewelry creations:

1. You can use a Matt or Shiny Black metal plating for the metal bases and combine it together with brighter Swarovski crystal colors such as Silver Shade, Crystal, White Opal, Moonlight or SW pearls. This combination will create dramatic black & white jewelry pieces that your customers will love.

2. To create a dramatic and gothic look, use black with black! Design jewelry items with black plated metal bases and embed black color crystals in them, or combine black plated chains with black beads, etc. There are several black Swarovski crystals you can use: Jet, Griffith crystal color, Silver Night and Black patina. Create a gothic inspired jewelry line and win the hearts of all of the young fashionista ladies.

3. In general, black is the perfect color, it has very dramatic attributes that cannot be denied. Black also brings out the best of all the rest of the colors. When creating this jewelry style you can use a bit of color that will be like a ray of light in the darkness.

4. Creating an evening collection in the leading Black color is classic, timeless and perfect all year long. But not just for the evening, black and dramatic jewelry pieces are also stunning with an everyday white dress for that trendy and stylish look.

From what we saw at this year's Met Gala, this summer is going to be full of dramatic, gothic and futuristic designs, in both the fashion and the jewelry world. Don't stay behind regarding trends, instead, be a trend setter and lead and start creating your beautiful future inspired jewelry pieces today!
