Maybe you have seen this kind of necklace that looks casual and effortlessly cool, in endless colors and materials, and thought it must be to hard to make by yourself.
This is a step by step tutorial that will show you how this necklace is made:
These kind of necklaces is made from a long string with beads and a dangling shiny, colorful Swarovski crystal and ends with a tassel.
STEP 1 # - Organize the materials
The ingredients needed for making this necklace are:
Beads
Wax polyester cord
1 Stone setting with top and bottom loops
1 12X12 square Swarovski crystal
1 Tassel
A few 5mm jump rings
1 Clasp
5cm of extension chain
Tools:
2 Plier tools
A lighter
E6000 glue for jewelry making
STEP 2 # - Creating the beads necklace
Start by putting all the beads in a bowl, so it will be comfortable to take one at a time.
This necklace is made of 6mm natural agate beads.
I used 80 beads and 80cm of wax cord that makes a 60cm necklace.
TIP: cut the end of the cord in a slant shape, this will help you slide the beads much easier. When it starts to split, cut it again!
Start with one small knot in the middle of the cord and slide one bead all the way done. Make a second knot as close to the bead as possible. Slide another bead and so on....
A long necklace as this will take at least 20 minutes to make, so sit comfortably, and work patiently... I find it fun and relaxing.
STEP 3 # - Closing the necklace
When you have made 60cm of beads and knots, it's time to close it into a necklace.
The cord is made of a polyester with wax coating so you just need to make a knot and worm the wax with a lighter so it melts a little and the knot is sealed.
This necklace is long enough to wear without needing to open it at the back, so you can eater tie the ends of the cord together in a tight knot or tie each end of the cord to a 5mm jump ring and use them to connect the clasp and extension chain.
STEP 4 # - Hanging the pendant
Find the knot in the middle and use 2 small jump rings to hang the decorated stone setting on the chain, also hang the tassel with 2 jump rings.
Using 2 jump rings makes it look stronger and the pendent will not turn to the sides so much when wearing it.
E6000 Glue for jewelry making is a very strong and good for embedding this big crystal inside the stone setting.
Now that you know how to make the first one, you can play with different beads, strings, stone settings and tassels in various colors and creating beautiful necklaces!
